TINA TURNER: Her Story
LUISA MARSHALL is ready to rock
ROCK ICON TRIVIA
[PRESS RELEASE] Luisa Marshall is ready to rock Preview | She's been performing as TINA TURNER the past 6 years, but a spectacular new theater production featuring highlights of the Queen of Rock N' Roll's four-decade reign will finally make diehard Tina fans sit up and take notice. In a time when teenagers Britney and Christina were ruling the radio and music charts, sixty-something Tina Turner, still as vibrant and electrifying as ever, has announced her retirement and was bidding farewell through a sold-out World Tour. Surprisingly, Turner has even outsold the two pop princesses in concert ticket sales combined. And this made Luisa Marshall really proud of the rock goddess. After years of performing as Tina Turner in her homage to the music icon, Marshall is still amazed on the universal and timeless appeal of Turner's life and music. "It just shocks me how people from all ages and races respond to Tina's music." states Marshall over the phone from her hotel room in Kuala Lumpur where she is scheduled to perform for members of the royal family. "I have performed all over the world, from Japan, Dubai, Israel and even Bosnia... and in all these shows, there's always this excitement and energy that I feed off from the audience from performing Tina's hits... "I've always felt that Tina has signed some sort of cosmic contract stating that she agreed to sing for the world, and show off those famous legs of hers in action, like - forever? But I guess that's asking too much... Talking to Marshall is incredibly entertaining. She laughs frequently with that trademark Tina-like cackle, isn't shy about her opinions, and has a unique story to tell. Luisa Marshall has traveled and performed around the world as the rock icon herself. Her uncanny ability to look, sing and move like the rock goddess had earned her fans, young and old. In 2003, Luisa won the grand prize as the World Rock 'N Roll Tribute Artist Champion, beating out participants from over 20 countries. "Now that was wonderful experience. Having all these talented performers from all over the world in one room, and basically battling it out for the trophy. I haven't seen so many Elvises in my life!" she guffaws. In 2004, Luisa Marshall performed for the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in a grueling show tour that included war-torn Bosnia. "It was an unforgettable experience," Luisa recalled. "It was heart-wrenching to see the devastation, but at the end of the day, everybody was singing along with me to The Best, and it's just amazing how appreciated Tina's songs are... somehow it got everybody's mind off the misery and sadness that time, and in some way, the song has taken on this inspirational meaning for these troops." In 2005, Marshall had the privilege of performing live for the audience of the Oprah pre-show, when Tina Turner was a guest of the talk-show queen. During the commercial break, as Turner and Oprah Winfrey chatted, Turner could not help and watch in awe as Marshall's impromptu performance was played back in the big video screen behind them. "At that moment, I thought to myself, WOW, Tina Turner is watching me perform HER song. It was so surreal," Marshall gushes. "I have always been a fan of Tina. Not only of her music, but also the amazing way she had and continues to live her life, overcoming all these obstacles to get where she's at today. And for that, I give her my ultimate admiration and hopefully in my own little way, even in her departure from the world stage, I will carry on the legacy of her life and music through this new show. When asked how she would describe the show, Marshall responds "It's a musical biography of Tina, her life story told through her own music. This has never been done, and everybody is quite psyched up about it. You'll see Tina's transformation, her varied looks and costumes through the years, re-lived on stage. "I will be performing all the songs that made Tina the legend that she is..." she says. "Like What's Love Got To With It and We Don't Need Another Hero, including cover songs like Heard it Through The Grapevine, Disco Inferno and of course, her signature song Proud Mary. I've got a gorgeous ensemble of dancers and a big screen with astonishing video imagery as stage backdrop." Marshall added. Written, choreographed, co-produced and directed by accomplished screenwriter and stage director Leandro Mendez, Luisa Marshall's TINA - A Rock N' Roll Journey takes you on a musical and visual voyage through the four decades of the reign of the Queen of Rock N' Roll. From Tina's days with Ike Turner to her breakthrough, Grammy-winning album Private Dancer, to her latest greatest hits collection, Luisa Marshall promises her own inimitable, explosive style and only The Best in this new groundbreaking show.
